Dr. Powe has accepted an appointment as the Constance B. Wofsy Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Chief of Medical Service at the San Francisco General Hospital and Vice-Chair of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

During his tenure at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Powe was the Director of the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research on the East Baltimore campus and was a faculty member in the Johns Hopkins’ School of Medicine.

Dr. Powe has authored over 300 articles and he has received numerous awards for his work in medicine, public health and health care. However, Dr. Powe’s real legacy has been his commitment and contributions toward promoting the advancement of women and minorities at Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Powe has motivated many (students, staff and faculty) to reach for a better future through his leadership, directorship, scholarship, mentorship and commitment to the principals of diversity, inclusion and collegiality. Dr. Powe promotes the highest level of professional standards and ethics. His commitment to his work is based on the solid principles of honor, integrity, equity and inclusiveness. Through his leadership, he has exhibited these qualities and characteristics to those around him. During his 25-year career at Hopkins, Dr. Powe has mentored hundreds of physicians, scientists, faculty, staff and undergraduate students. He has put forth special effort to recruit and retain minorities in medicine and public health. Several junior faculty, postdoctoral and predoctoral fellows at Hopkins have benefitted from his talent, expertise and experience. With the help of a diverse group of colleagues, he has established a national reputation for the Welch Center. Ms. Noelia Cantu, Academic Program Manager, at The Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Scholars Program accepted the award on behalf of Dr. Neil Powe. Thank you, Noelia, for accepting the award.
