President Ronald J. Daniels and Ms. Ahreum Kim Ahreum Kim is a student at the Peabody Institute. Ms. Kim has been an active member of the Peabody Diversity Committee for the past 3 years. During that time, she has demonstrated a passion for celebrating diversity and initiating and supporting various efforts that promote more inclusive practices on the Peabody campus. One of Ms. Kim’s efforts was the: Peabody Buddy Program – Ms. Kim along with the support of the Dean of Student Affairs was instrumental in establishing the “Peabody Buddy Program.” This program pairs new international students with current students (buddy) at the Institute that are pursuing the same degree and are frequently studying at the same studio. The current student contacts the new international student over the summer via email as an introduction. The current student assists the new international student by meeting him/her on arrival to the Peabody; helps with the new student through the registration, financial aid, business office processes and to become comfortable in the Peabody community.
Ahreum was also responsible for assisting a visually impaired student as part of her graduate assistantship. Ms. Kim met with the student on a weekly basis to assist in gathering course materials and locating additional resources. As a result of her involvement in this process, the Peabody Diversity Committee became aware of the lack of a central office for Disability Services on the campus and steps have been taken to better serve the disabled population at Peabody. In 2007, Ms. Kim organized the Diversity Concert that is currently held at the Mattin Center. She has also been used by various Deans and Department chairs to assist in better understanding diversity and cultural issues with regard to the Asian population. As a result of your commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, we congratulate you Ahreum Kim. Return to the gallery | | |
