President Ronald J. Daniels and Ms. Melodye Thomas

Melodye Thomas is an Outpatient Appeals Coordinator at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. While her job as an Appeals Coordinator is very demanding, she always finds time to contribute to the efforts that are important to our vision for diversity and inclusion. Melodye is an active member of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Diversity Council and an active volunteer in the community that never hesitates to represent Johns Hopkins Bayview at any Johns Hopkins related function to ensure that we stay connected with other Hopkins diversity efforts.

Melodye has also been the driving force for “Disabilities Awareness” activities on the Bayview campus. These activities are focused on educating managers and the workforce on issues surrounding hiring and working with people with disabilities. Melodye also coordinated a “Job Shadowing” day for individuals from the Department of Rehabilitative Services and departments that she solicited from Bayview that would sponsor visitors. This effort allowed the visitors an opportunity to learn about the types of jobs and job skills that are required to work in the various disciplines and gave them an opportunity to network with other healthcare workers.

She is currently coordinating an “Accommodations Fair” which focuses its attention on dispelling the myth that accommodating individuals with disabilities must be a costly endeavor. Vendors from several organizations will be present to speak with managers about low and no cost opportunities to assist individuals in their jobs. She exemplifies the core values that speak to diversity and inclusiveness. Congratulations Melodye.
