
Brenton Pennicooke Brenton Pennicooke is the president of the Black Student Union Association. As president, he serves as liaison between the Johns Hopkins University and Baltimore community at large. He currently serves, as the student representative, on the Commission for Equity, Civility and Respect for JHU. In this capacity, Brenton helps to promote diversity, multicultural awareness and education on campus. He helps to promote inclusiveness by assisting with the initiative to hire more women and minority faculty.
Brenton also founded the “Brotherhood” mentoring program. This program involved roughly 15 mostly black males from Hopkins as mentors to 15 males 9th grade male students from Mergenthaler Vocational High School as mentees. They organized awareness programs for their mentees that included sexual responsibilities and medical awareness. The program was awarded a $3,500 grant from the Youth as Resources of Baltimore in 2005 to further its mission. Through his leadership, Brenton has and continues to promote the initiatives of diversity, inclusiveness and multiculturalism. Congratulations Brenton. Return to the awards page
