Dr. Tina Cheng (no photo available)
Cheng is the Division Chief in the Department of Pediatrics. Since her arrival in 2002 she has demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion in her leadership, program building, clinical care, teaching and research. Dr. Cheng has promoted diversity in recruitment (she has recruited 3 of five URM faculty (there are 29 total)); of the 23 fellows in her division since 2002, she has assisted in identifying and recruiting 11 African Americans, one Hispanic and 4 Asian Americans. In clinical care, she has developed and sustained award-winning clinical and community programs that address the needs of minority, urban families, particularly youth development violence prevention.As a teacher and a mentor, she has placed a special emphasis on supporting URMs at the graduate, post-graduate and junior faculty levels. She has recruited promising minority investigators. Of the 30 trainees she has mentored, 12 were African American, one was Hispanic and two were Asian American. She has sponsored cultural competence training sessions for faculty, fellows and clinical staff in her division. Dr. Cheng has been a leader at JHU in modeling diversity and inclusiveness.
